Using the Gods to beat the odds.

The Sunday Sermon – 23rd Oct ’22

Morning, morning, morning. After yesterday’s rollercoaster of games, I’m hoping for something a lot less exciting. Something a bit more boring, as trading should be. So let’s have a little look at some of the games I’m particularly interested in today, consult my bible (my statsbook), and see if there’s anything worth betting on:

Southampton vs Arsenal
I see Arsenal being too strong for Southampton here. Arsenal have done very well on their travels. When playing away they’ve beaten Crystal Palace (0-2), Bournemouth (0-3), Brentford (0-3), and Leeds United (0-1). I view these teams similar in terms of ability to Southampton. Arsenal have only lost to Man Utd on their travels, but the Red Devils <spits> are much better then the Saints <cheers> in terms of footballing ability.

Southampton at home have not had much success. Although I will point out that they have won one match, which was against Chelsea, and lost against The Red Devils <spits again> 0-1. So, against teams of similar ability to Arsenal they are capable of springing the odd surprise and can be a tough cookie to crack. Also, they did beat Arsenal in April of this year 1-0. So just have that in the back of your mind when deciding on which scorelines to choose. Consulting my Bible, I’d go for the scorelines 0-2, 1-2, and hedge AOA, 0-1, and 1-1. Trade out of these when you see them being hit.

Spurs vs Newcastle
Spurs have been excellent at home in the Prem this season, but they have played teams that I would expect them to beat (The Saints <cheers>, Wolves, Fulham, Leicester, and Everton). Newcastle will offer a sterner test, no doubt. On their travels, the Geordies have done relatively well against teams of similar ability to Spurs. They drew against the Red Devils <spits again, again> last weekend, and it took a last minute winner to see Liverpool beat them back in August. I can see them upping their game again against another top team and I think we’ll see another tough encounter. My Bible highlights the folllowing scores as particular picks to consider: 1-1, 1-0, 2-0, and hedging the scorelines 2-1 and 1-2.

Well that’s it for now. I’ll revisit these teams nearer to kick-off when we will know the team line-ups. Wishing you a green Sunday. Good luck my betting brethren. Amen.
