Using the Gods to beat the odds.

Results for Week 14 – Upping The Stakes

Hello one and all. I hope you are all doing okay and your trades are nice and green. Week 14 was a bit of a mixed bag for me. I had a big loser, but I also had a big winner. Unfortunately the losing trade outweighed the winning trade, but as I mentioned in my post last week, it was to be expected, so I’m wasn’t too concerned about it.

I traded 5 matches for week 14, but there were 3 significant trades that I want to look at in a bit more detail. These are outlined below:

Man Utd vs Leeds (8th Feb)
This was the first game that I decided to up my stakes. This meant that I was looking at £30 stake for each trade rather than the typical £10 or so. So, for this game I chose 3 correct scorelines and I was staking a total of £90. As every trader knows, as soon as they increase their stakes, the betting Gods seems to turn against them and everything seems to go pear-shaped. And my trades decided to go pear-shaped in classic fashion. For two of my three correct scoreline trades I had opted for Leeds not to score. So then what happens??? Leeds score within the first minute! Haha! You’ve got to laugh or you’d cry. I decided to hang in for the last remaining correct scoreline but things didn’t go my way. So I was £90 down and not off to the best of starts.

Leeds vs Man Utd (12th Feb)
Things got a lot better for this particular match. I covered most of the scorelines I mentioned in my Sunday Mass blog post, but I was a bit naughty as I couldn’t focus 100% on my trading due to the fact I was driving. But, when I did manage to have a look as to how my trades were progressing, I noticed I was in a very good green position so I decided to trade out. This was for approximately £75. Looking back I could have stayed in the trade a little longer and got a bigger green, but I decided to come out of my trades early and take what I could, just in case another goal was scored and the my remaining trades were scuppered. I think the fact that I had lost £90 in my previous trade (mentioned above) might have been a deciding factor in me wanting to trade out rather than staying in the trade.

Liverpool vs Everton (13th Feb)
For this game I probably should have trusted my stats a lot more than I did my gut feelings. All the stats pointed towards a Liverpool home win, but I decided to go against what the stats were telling me and I decided to lay Liverpool. With Everton winning against the league leaders the previous weekend, and Liverpool losing against Wolves, I probably looked a bit too much into these results and betted accordingly. With hindsight, it was probably the wrong decision. Also I will say, looking at the odds, Liverpool seemed a good price to lay at. Unfortunately from a results viewpoint, that wasn’t the case.

Here’s a screenshot of my week 14 trades:

As you can see, I was £28.29 down for week 14, which seems quite a large amount when compared to the other losses I’ve experienced on my trading journey. But we need to bear in mind that the stakes I’m using for week 14 are a lot bigger, and therefore losses will naturally be a lot bigger. If I was using the stake size I was using last week, this might only have been a £10 loss. Perspective is very much required in these circumstances so that the trader doesn’t get downhearted when experiencing losses once they’ve increased their stake size. When I move up to £50 stakes, £100 stakes, and £200 stakes, I’ll need to get used to losing larger amounts of money that comes with the increases in stake size. That’s just trading, and it’s the nature of this business. So here’s how week 14’s loss has effected my overall journey’s profit and loss:

As you can see, this is the biggest loss that I’ve experienced on my journey so far. But I’m not too worried. I know if I can string a few winning trades together then the profit gained will far outweigh the losses for week 14. I’m quite calm about that, and I think the experience I’ve gained over the past three years have put me in good stead as I know any reds can be turned around quite quickly, I just need to make sure that I don’t go chasing losses.

So that’s it for my results round-up. I’m disappointed I’m not telling you about a massive green, but that’s trading. I’m sure in the coming weeks I’ll have a few greens to talk about. In fact I’m determined that I will have. Looking forward, I’ll have a look at the trading opportunities for tomorrow’s big match – Arsenal vs Man City. I may just go for the straight City win for this one. I think predicting a correct scoreline will be very tough, but I’ll take a look at the stats before writing anything off. Good luck if you’re also looking to trade this game. And if you are, may the Lord be with you. Always!
